During my
research and planning days I had to try to make sure that I knew what my target
audience would be. I fist picked out what genre I would like to go for and I
have chosen the indie music genre. Before starting I had already known a bit
about the indie genre and I had also used ‘UK tribes’ and the helped me. From
the UK tribes I decided that my magazine should be aimed towards ‘stylers’ and
‘scenesters’. Throughout the process I have learnt a lot more than expected
though. I have had to research what the people with in the indie genre like to
do and the fashion sense etc.
My target audiences
are male and female between the ages of 16 and 21. The reason I have gone for
this age range is because I want it to be aimed at a teenagers and I want it to
be quite a ‘cool’ magazine. This age range is also very into music and their
fashion. This target audience is more involved with upcoming artist as they don’t like the
mainstream music as much. Because of this I want my magazine to mainly be based
around genre but there will have a variety of genres in the magazine. As I know
fashion is such a big thing to this genre I will try and make sure that a lot
of artist outfits are displayed in the photos so fans can get an understanding
in what is trending in the fashion at the moment.
After research I
have found that my target audience like to shop in ‘vintage’ clothes shops such
as pink pigeon. I have found that indie people enjoy these types of clothes
because they are ‘different’ to what everyone else is wearing and would like to
be able to be spotted out in the crowd. Their fashion kind of represents a
rebellious lifestyle, as they don’t want to comprehend to all the rules of society
instead just live a less stressed life and not think about all of the deadlines
and stresses. I have found in their spare time they like to hang out with
friends and go to gigs and music festivals such as Y not as this has ore of their
music they are looking for.
